DEVOTIONAL

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

PSALM 23: 1 (NKJV)

The 23rd Psalm is the most beloved of all the psalms. It has brought untold comfort to the sick and bereaved, it is full of God’s wonders and promises. The first line is “The LORD is my shepherd” shows us how much God cares for us. A shepherd would be with his flock 24/7 in all kinds of weather. The shepherd knows his flock and cares for his flock. Jesus even referred to himself as a shepherd in John 10: 11 when he says “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.” And again in verse 14 “I am the good shepherd; and I know my sheep, and am known by My own.” Is that not a wonderful feeling to know that Jesus knows you as His own. We are part of that “one flock” composed of believing Jews and Gentiles. What comfort is found here. As we go through the week ponder what Jesus is saying here and read this psalm daily for the many blessings found here.

Father, may we respond by being sheep that follow you, for you are the Shepherd. We know that you will keep us in the palm of your hand because we are the “apple of your eye.” AMEN!
